Luke Gillon is a photographer and videographer from Orange County, California, currently studying at Cal Poly SLO. Raised in Southern California’s surf, skate, and snow culture, his work is deeply influenced by a childhood spent outdoors camping, backpacking, skateboarding, and exploring the coast and mountains with friends. What began as filming skateboarding on an iPhone evolved into a passion for storytelling through photography and film, leading him to create two full-length skate films by the end of high school.
Luke’s work blends photography and video to explore themes of nature, movement, mystery, and emotional atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from travel, adventure, and cinematic storytelling, his recent work experiments with narrative, emotion, and a sense of abnormalness and vastness. While his roots are in landscape and outdoor filmmaking, he has increasingly expanded into studio work, narrative filmmaking, and commercial-style visuals.
Since arriving at Cal Poly, Luke’s photograph Last Voyage received first prize in photography at the Juried Student Gallery Show and was published in .Raw Magazine, Volume 10 Issue 2 and the 2026 Annual Issue. He continues to explore new visual directions while pursuing a future career in filmmaking, with aspirations of becoming a Director of Photography.
